Goodbye Thailand!

We have now left Bangkok and Thailand! The first part of our big journey has come to an end. Thailand was both fantastic and overwhelming. A very intense experience. Especially Bangkok, where the heat and the many impressions took some getting used to.

Back in Bangkok!

After 3 lovely weeks in Phuket, we are now back in Bangkok. We arrived Wednesday afternoon at our hotel. It is located right along the river Chao Phraya, one of the main rivers running through Thailand, and a very important logistical point. The view from our room actually reminds me a bit of Canal Grande in Venice. The river is just as busy, if not more. Small ferries, tourist boats, long tail boats, freight carriers etc, are sailing up and down the river 24 hours a day. A fascinating sight that gives us a pretty good feeling of the heartbeat of the city.

Everyday life in Phuket...

Thailand. I have been here before. A little over 6 years ago. But it was with a company that I used to work for back then, so it really doesn’t count.

Now I am back with my family. As a matter of fact, I was never really drawn towards Thailand as a country/place I wanted to visit. But we have been recommended to start with an “easy” spot for our long journey, and Thailand is located just en-route towards Australia, so it really was an ideal place to start with. It only ads to the pleasant experience, that everything, lodging and food, is almost ridiculously cheap. We are travelling on a budget, and want to spread it out as much as possible!

First impressions.... and Phuket!

We arrived in Phuket Thursday afternoon. The flight from Bangkok was pretty easy and everything just worked out perfect. Everywhere we go, Anton seems to be the big hit. Such a pale, western boy they simply just HAVE to approach, talk to and often touch. So far he seems ok with this, but I have a feeling that eventually he will have enough!

Arrived in Bangkok!

Finally the day for our departure came! I’ll admit it was somewhat difficult for me to fall asleep last night. But after almost a whole season of “Downton Abbey” I finally dozed off...

So many thoughts! Will 7 t-shirts really be enough for a whole year? Are all the papers in order? (Checked that SEVERAL times!) Would it be an idea to save copies of our passports in DropBox? (YES!) - and so on! (Don’t forget to turn off the central heating and the water-faucet for the dish-washer!)
